Victor Lindelof has spoken about Manchester United's interest in Benfica. United urgently need some central defenders, before they get back to training in preparation for next season. Given Ed Woodward's abilities, don't be surprised if we re-sign Wes Brown on the last minute of the last day of the transfer window.

There's a story in the Independent that while Romelu Lukaku has not ruled out a move to Old Trafford, he is keener to sign for Chelsea. There's some disagreement over the figures, so United can't be discounted yet. Either way, it's a sign how far United have fallen in terms of attractiveness over the last few seasons.

Gareth Bale is going to sign for Manchester United! No he's not! Well, it's not really obvious what he's doing. He says he'd like to stay at Real Madrid, but until he either signs a new contract or says he's going to leave, there's no real evidence either way. It hardly looks promising for Ed Woodward, though.

I'm not sure I have heard a bad word about Marcus Rashford, even once, or even hinted. He and Jesse Lingard visited some of those injured in the recent terrorist attack in Manchester, and very cheering it is.

Renato Sanches sensibly decided to avoid signing for Louis van Gaal, but might have regretted his choice to miss out on Jose Mourinho. That's the likelihood, anyway, given he is on his way out of Bayern Munich after failing to impress with Bayern Munich and to settle in Germany. Let's link him with United then - he is definitely going to join us.
