Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of Manchester United youngster Regan Poole, who has joined the League One club on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old Welshman was handed his United debut by Louis van Gaal in the Europa League clash with Midtjylland two seasons ago, though has failed to make a first-team appearance since.
However, he has impressed while in action for the United reserve side, alternating between centre-half and defensive midfield. Northampton boss Justin Edinburgh — who gave Poole his professional debut at Newport County — clearly thinks the teenager is ready to play a part as his side look to improve on their 16th place finish in the third tier. Edinburgh described Poole as:
"[A] central defender who is comfortable on the ball. He is strong, he leaps well and he has all the attributes to be a top, top player. He is mobile and he will complement the other defenders we have at the club well.”
Let’s hope he can make the most of his opportunity.
Delighted to have joined Northampton Town on loan for the 2017/18 season. New chapter in my career and can't wait to get started ⚽️ pic.twitter.com/nKbpsfs0IB
