Manchester United play their last pre-season friendly on Wednesday, taking on Italian side Sampdoria at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. José Mourinho’s men head in buoyed by the comfortable victory over Norwegian outfit Vålerenga last week, and will hope to use the game for some final experimentation ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid in Skopje next Tuesday.
Sampdoria should prove rather more stubborn opponents than Vålerenga, though are unlikely to pose too much of a threat for Mourinho’s men. The side that once proudly boasted the likes of Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini now have to make do with Ricky Álvarez and Roberto Quagliarella, and finished last season in 10th place. They should be competent, but United will be expecting a victory.
Pre-season friendly schedule
