Manchester United’s teenage defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah could be set to leave Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window, with new Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer reportedly keen on signing his compatriot on loan. That’s according to a report in the Sun, which we’d rather not link to for reasons well-known.

The paper claim that Fosu-Mensah would play at centre-back for Palace, with de Boer in the market for “a right-sided defender for his favoured 3-4-3 formation to team up with Scott Dann and summer signing from Ajax Jairo Riedewald.” Fosu-Mensah’s versatility — he’s capable of playing at centre-half, right-back or in midfield — could mean he’d fit the bill.

Fosu-Mensah has been on United’s pre-season tour, and has already made a handful of competitive appearances for the first-team. However, most of them came under Louis van Gaal, and it seems unlikely that he’s going to make the breakthrough into José Mourinho’s lineup any time soon. It could well be that a season of regular Premier League football at a side like Palace would be of great benefit. What do we think?
