Ander Herrera has made only one Premier League start so far this season, with not even Paul Pogba’s injury enough to buy the Spaniard a slot in José Mourinho’s starting lineup. However, That doesn’t appear to have changed anything on the contract front, with the 28-year-old reportedly set to sign a new deal in the coming months.
The latest report comes courtesy of the Manchester Evening News, who claim that “Herrera is calm and in no rush to extend his deal - which technically expires next year - and expects to commit to United within the next two-and-a-half months.” They echo recent reports that suggest Herrera is happy at Old Trafford, despite his bit-part role this season and the links with a move to Barcelona earlier in the summer.
Herrera doubtless remains an excellent midfield option for United, and we shouldn’t forget last season’s excellent form. Tying him down has to be one of Ed Woodward’s priorities over the coming weeks. With games set to come thick and fast, Herrera’s sure to see plenty of game time, and could yet force his way above Marouane Fellaini in Mourinho’s pecking order.
