Everyone’s favorite next next big thing, Andreas Pereira, has joined La Liga club Valencia on loan for the season. After being handed a new and improved squad number, most of us thought that Pereira would finally be integrated into the Manchester United senior squad this season, but alas, he’s off again to Spain for the second year in a row.
Valencia CF have reached an agreement this Friday with Manchester United FC for the loan of Belgian-Brazilian player Andreas Pereira until the 30th of June, 2018.
Pereira had an impressive season at Granada last season, and had been linked with a temporary switch to Los Che in previous weeks. Up until the transfer window deadline in England, it had been reported that José Mourinho wanted to keep Pereira around, despite the youngster so far failing to make a matchday squad this season. Just before the close of the window in Spain however, Valencia announced the loan deal.
On one hand, it is a shame to see such a talented player yet again allowed to showcase his talents elsewhere. But on the other, Pereira may not have gotten the minutes this season that he deserves or needs at this point in his career. Mourinho is expected to deliver results above all else this year, and blooding in another youngster into an already young team may not have been high on his list of priorities.
Reportedly, United hold an option to recall the Brazilian attacking midfielder in January. As currently constructed, this United squad is only an injury or two away from making this loan deal look very silly indeed, so it’s good to know that Pereira can be recalled if needed.
Best of luck to him.
