Manchetester United have been drawn away to Swansea City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. United should be able to get past a side who will likely rest many of their first team players because they will be focusing on their Premier League survival. While United could well field the same team as they did last night, the gap in quality between United’s and Swansea’s should be enough to give United a way through to the fifth round.

Jose Mourinho thinks that the English game would benefit from the absence of the Carabao Cup. He’s right, and really, the FA Cup should be abandoned too if the league structure stays as it is. It is an obstacle for the best teams to stay fit, and an obstacle for other teams who are prioritising promotion chasing or relegation survival. The money on offer - perhaps through giving Champions League places to the winners of the cups - should be altered, or they should be scrapped.

Phil Neville thinks that Marcus Rashford is as good as Kylian Mbappe. While Ligue 1 Isn’t the strongest European league, the fact that Mbappe is a touch younger than Rashford means we can expect more rapid improvement from the French striker because he has significantly fewer games under his belt. Nevertheless, Rashford is magic, and showed impressive awareness last night - he is improving very quickly indeed.

Former Birmingham manager Gary Rowett turned down the chance to sign Victor Lindelof when he was in charge of the Championship club. He didn’t believe that the Swedish international central defender. was tough enough That might be the case for the lower English leagues, and he’s obviously adapting slowly, but he’s young enough to give time to.

I have no idea what the point of this is.
