Paris Saint-Germain can’t be bothered with Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez is up slack alley. He had been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain before he left Arsenal, but ultimately turned down the offer from Manchester City as United offered a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and an absolutely ludicrous £500,000-a-week contract.

That huge sum of money hasn’t done enough to keep his mood up, however. The split with his last woman appears to have hit him hard, and he cuts a sullen figure behind closed doors. He does not talk to many players, reportedly, except Juan Mata, David de Gea and Romelu Lukaku, and his demands for the ball on the pitch grates from his teammates.

He had been hoping to cut short his stay with United and move to Paris - a superior city to literally anywhere in England, including Manchester - which isn’t the worst place in the world, but is in the world’s second worst country - but the French side have decided they would rather sign someone else.

That rather cuts the options for Sanchez in the short term. City won’t want him now he is a busted flush, and perhaps Real Madrid could be tempted into a cut-price deal or swap with Gareth Bale at the end of the season, but it seems like Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho, he is stuck at Manchester United regardless of whether he wants to be there or not.

Sanchez clearly is an excellent player when on form, but he needs to be happy and to be at full fitness. If he won’t play on the right, then he has to feature through the middle, and get better service. He also has to learn to pass the ball, both in terms of wanting to, and in terms of being capable of incisive passing. At his best, that is no problem, but it certainly is yet another one for Sanchez and Mourinho to fix now.
