Andy Dunn of The Mirror was impressed by Alexis Sanchez’s performance against Huddersfield Town for Manchester United. Sanchez was at the heart of much of United’s best play - not that this was especially good - and scored his first goal for United with a penalty. Sanchez gives United what they often lack, which is someone who is just prepared to take the ball and drive towards goal. For too long, everything has been a bit Louis van Gaal - this could be a positive change away from that.
The Telegraph, too, was a fan of the Chilean international’s performance, saying the away side found it difficult to muzzle him. If United could just get a decent central defence together then the semi-finals of the Champions League is just about realistic, otherwise Sevilla remain a pretty tough opposition.
Exciting news! Manchester United are apparently in advanced talks with Ajax over the signing of 18-year-old Justin Kluivert. United tried to sign his dad and had to settle for Dwight Yorke, but might get hold of Justin. There’s a £10m fee rumoured, and he has impressed with a hat-trick against Roda JC.
Juan Mata dedicated the win on Saturday against Huddersfield to the friends, players and families affected by the Munich disaster. He has recently signed a new contract with the club, and seems like a thoroughly decent human being.
The Manchester United Supporters Trust have issued a statement over Jose Mourinho’s criticism of the quiet crowd at Old Trafford. Mourinho could help himself by producing more exciting football, but the cause is the day-trippers filling out the stadium at the expense of local, committed fans who have been priced out of attending. Pretending the problem is not the Glazers ownership of United insults your intelligence and mine. Well, maybe not yours.
