Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has said that he wants to play alongside Paul Pogba every day. That might have been easier done before United bought Alexis Sanchez in the winter transfer window from Arsenal. It also might have been easier when United were happy to buy Griezmann last summer, when there were funds for the move, and when Atletico Madrid had a reasonable release clause. In essence, then, it would have been a lot easier for the two of them to join up with one another had Griezmann done the obvious thing when it was presented to him. Or, they could both just join Real Madrid in the summer. Oh.

The Guardian’s Rumour Mill carries a story that Real Madrid do indeed want to sign Pogba. Unless things really go south in the next couple of months, we can ignore these rumours, but when it comes to Mino Raiola, things can kick off pretty quickly.

Andrea Belotti has said he will only consider leaving Torino if he is first choice. As United have Romelu Lukaku, he probably won’t be on his way to United.

Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans might be available in the summer for just £3m. If West Brom are relegated, there is a clause that allows Evans to walk away for a pittance. Spurs are said to be the most interested team, but a bargain is a bargain, and he is much less bad that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

United might have more success closer to home. Celtic defender Kieran Tierney is back in Jose Mourinho’s sights. Rated at £20m, he is affordable, with plenty of potential. More interestingly, he can play not just at left-back, but on the right and in the centre of defence, something which is said to have piqued Mourinho’s interest, given the dreadful quality he has in most positions.
