You can tell the season’s nearing its conclusion. The transfer rumours are warming up. And the freshest slice of United-related gossip concerns Anthony Martial, who last played for United’s first team back in March, against Brighton in the FA Cup, and last scored back in January, a winner against Burnley.

According to RMC Sport, Martial is “unhappy with his low playing time” and has rejected an offer of a contract extension from United. The Independent elaborate on this a little, stating that while his “first preference” is to stay:

sources around the club say there is a growing expectation that manager Jose Mourinho will seek to further alter his attack in the summer and may see Martial as surplus to requirements.

Obviously, a move makes sense from Martial’s point of view. He is young, exceptionally talented, and currently third choice on both the left wing and up front. It certainly seems to tBB that Jose Mourinho has never been fully convinced that Martial deserves a first-team place, and the arrival of Alexis Sanchez has only made that clearer.

Still, it would be a shame to see him go. At this best he’s thrilling to watch, and there are none in the United squad with such tricky feet. The Indy reckon Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are interested, along with Tottenham, although it’s hard to imagine United being happy to sell within the Premier League.
