Manchester United are through to the FA Cup Final after coming from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1. Alexis Sánchez and Ander Herrera both converted for the Reds in an entertaining semi-final affair.
Phil Jones and Chris Smalling limited the dangerous Harry Kane, Herrera was excellent, and Sánchez was instrumental for José Mourinho’s side, here are our player ratings:
David De Gea: 6
The PFA Goalkeeper of the Year had no chance for Dele Alli’s opener and had little to do throughout the game. His handling and distribution were assured, but it was a surprisingly quiet game for De Gea.
Antonio Valencia: 6
The veteran right-back was tasked with dealing with the tricky Son Heung-min and performed diligently. It was a no nonsense performance from the United captain who made crucial blocks and tackles to limit Spurs’ attacking threat.
Chris Smalling: 6.5
Smalling endured a rough start to the game and his positioning for the opening goal was poor, allowing Alli space and time to finish. However, he grew as the game progressed and did an excellent job in the air against Kane.
Phil Jones: 7.5
Jones returned to the squad with an immediate impact. He was a rock for the backline in the game, the highlight being his last ditch tackle on Alli. An impressive performance.
Ashley Young: 5.5
Young was completely out of position for Spurs’ opening goal. A simple long ball down his channel was enough for Eriksen to enjoy acres of space before crossing to Alli. He improved as the game went on.
Nemanja Matić: 6
Spurs controlled the early stages of the game and Matić looked somewhat flustered. However, the Serbian settled into the game and produced his usual solid performance for United.
Ander Herrera: 7.5
In a packed midfield battle, Herrera shone with a dogged display. Continues to be the passionate heart of the United team when he plays. The Spaniard took his goal well, slotting it past Vorm with power.
Paul Pogba: 7
After a frustrating start, Pogba produced a superb display. His range of passing and vision was exquisite, and he covered an immense amount of ground. Showed his quality when he outmuscled Dembele off the ball before producing a brilliant assist for Sánchez's equalizer.
Jesse Lingard: 6
Lingard didn’t have his usual impact on the big stage at Wembley but he was constantly looking to get on the ball and create. Worked industriously throughout.
Alexis Sánchez: 8 (Man of the Match)
The Chilean has a proven record of scoring at Wembley in the FA Cup and he continued this tradition against Spurs. Scored United’s first goal to level the game, heading cleverly past Vorm. Buzzed around all game and was instrumental in United’s winner.
Romelu Lukaku: 6.5
Ran tirelessly throughout the game, offering United a much needed outlet at times. Didn’t have much influence around the goal but a solid performance from the big Belgian. Inadvertently set-up Herrera for the winner.
Matteo Darmian (Sub, 80’): N/A
Too late for a rating.
Marcus Rashford (Sub, 83’): N/A
Too late for a rating.
Marouane Fellaini (Sub, 90+6’): N/A
Too late for a rating.
José Mourinho: 7
After a shaky start, Mourinho managed to implement his game plan with precision. United never looked flustered defensively and although they didn’t possess as much as Spurs, they looked the more dangerous going forward.
