Manchester United wrap up another Premier League season on Sunday, as the second-placed Reds play host to Watford. Thursday’s painfully dull draw away to West Ham confirmed United’s final league position, and Watford have long secured their safety for another year in the top flight. As such, this final match is a dead rubber for both team.
For United, it offers fans a chance to say goodbye to retiring club captain Michael Carrick, who will start. For others, it may well be an undesirable starting berth as involvement from kickoff on Sunday is more than likely to indicate that those players will not start the FA Cup final next weekend. Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Sergio Romero, Daley Blind, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial will all join Carrick in the starting XI.
With little to play for, United fans can only hope that the players on the pitch try to provide some entertainment as the team makes its final appearance at Old Trafford this season.
