Manchester United and Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been ruled out of the 2018 World Cup with injury. The unfortunate news comes just weeks after United’s number two had worked his way back to fitness after another injury.

The right knee injury - described as a “joint blockage” - was picked up in training on Tuesday. It is a desperately sad outcome for Romero, who managed to maintain his place as Argentina’s starting goalkeeper despite being second-choice for United. He would have been entering this summer’s tournament in arguably the best form of his career, and could have feasibly gotten to the 100 cap mark for his country in Russia.
Get well soon, Sergio.
