Costa Rica 0-1 Serbia

Nemanja Matić put in a commanding and efficient showing as Serbia took all three points against Costa Rica in Group E. After the first round of games, Serbia top the group after Brazil and Switzerland shared points in a 1-1 draw.

The Manchester United man's performance mirrored much of his displays in his first domestic campaign with the Red Devils. Composed on the ball and excellent at subduing any midfield threat coming from Costa Rica, Matić proved how important a holding midfielder should perform on the field.

The game itself was evenly contested throughout. Both sides enjoyed half of the possession and had the same amount of shots and shots on target. However, 11 minutes into the second-half, an Aleksandar Kolarov free-kick found the top right-hand corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Matić had the responsibility of screening Costa Rica captain Bryan Ruiz, and shadowed him for the whole game. Ruiz was basically in the Serbian's pocket during the encounter.

Serbia's 3 points alongside Brazil's inability to win their opening game puts them in a great spot in Group E. Their next game is against Switzerland on June 22.
