Manchester United’s summer transfer business continues apace. Shortly after announcing an agreement to sign midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, the Reds have now announced that a deal has been agreed with FC Porto for Diogo Dalot. The 19 year-old Portuguese right-back joins United after being surprisingly linked in the media only last week.
Dalot was only promoted from Porto’s B Team towards the end of last season, and has only made 6 appearances for the senior team. United have reportedly paid his €20m release clause at Porto, and the player is apparently highly rated in his home country. A further announcement confirming the details of the deal is expected shortly.
With Antonio Valencia turning 33 at the start of next season - and secretly not that good anyway - United’s new right-back may well compete for a first-team place right away. Interestingly, Dalot also played at left-back in his most recent appearances, so his versatility could see him compete for Ashley Young’s spot as well.
Here’s a short video from United, in which you can see Dalot doing all the usual new signing things — wearing a shirt, being interviewed, fistpumping — but from exciting new angles:
