As expected, the kit is an homage to Newton Heath.

Manchester United have revealed their home kit for the upcoming season. The Adidas strip, as leaked information had hinted, is designed to mark the 140th anniversary of the club’s foundation as Newton Heath (Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway) Cricket and Football Club, and features what the official info is describing as a ‘train track graphic’.

Adidas’ Inigo Turner commented: “When designing the kit, we wanted to tell the story of the first incarnation of the United kit, 140 years ago. Originally, the team wore dark shorts, and we’ve reinterpreted this story in a bold and contemporary way, connecting the past to the future, and combining the very best in performance with street wearability.” The strip will debut in United’s friendly against Club América on Thursday.

If rumours are to be believed, Adidas will be even bolder with United’s new third kit. There has been frequent suggestion that the Reds’ alternate kit will be pink, and one tweeter appears to have tracked it down before official release. It’s probably going to prove divisive, but this corner of TBB is quite a fan: bringing a touch of Italian class to the Premier League. We’ll let you know when it’s officially out.
