The Mirror report that Manchester United could be in for Arturo Vidal. The 31-year-old Chilean was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the Louis van Gaal era, and is expected to leave this summer, regardless of whether United are in for him or not. The midfielder has been left behind as Bayern Munich head off on their US tour, suggesting that he isn’t in the plans of the German champions for the forthcoming season.

Jose Mourinho says that he wants two more players before the summer transfer window ends. United have been linked with Leonardo Bonucci, Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld recently, and there’s little doubt that an actually competent defender is essential ahead of what could be dreadful season without one. United have an awful defence and another season of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling is too depressing to contemplate.

Mourinho has also said that Paul Pogba needs to continue his excellent World Cup form for France when he gets back to the Premier League. Pogba was underwhelming last season - and that wasn’t all his fault - but if he plays with the purpose and discipline that he did for Didier Deschamps, then United and Pogba will be a dramatically better proposition. With Fred alongside him, his job should be much easier than it has been with Scott McTominay and Marouane Fellaini.

United are apparently considering adding a wide forward to the squad to give Mourinho what he wants for the coming season. Ivan Perisic and Gareth Bale are both pricey but proven, while Ante Rebic could be on his way to Bayern Munich (though you assume United would be able to offer much higher wages).

And the final rumour is that United have made contact with Thiago at Bayern Munich, which would be a handy addition.
