Claude Puel, Leicester City’s manager, is confident that Harry Maguire will not leave the club. Puel expects the 25-year-old central defender to stay despite the interest from Manchester United, who had been linked with a £65m move after a decent showing at the World Cup. Puel’s confidence might be genuine, or it might simply be the sensible course of action to take in order to maintain his sale value. United are in desperate need of signing a central defender after dealing with their mess of clowns for half a decade.

And finally some reports on the useless, penny-pinching ways of the calamitously useless Ed Woodward, who cost United the chance to sign Ivan Perisic over £5m. Perisic is not the kind of glamorous name that the inane and bumbling Woodward goes for, he is simply - as shown at the World Cup - an effective and dangerous winger with a ruthless streak that marks him out as a Mourinho player. Quite why we bother to back the slaphead weirdo Woodward and his leech bosses, I don’t know, but I’m sure some people will in the comments despite the evidence staring them in the face.

Such is the mood of Jose Mourinho that he is bringing down the players. His endless complaints and griping about the state of the squad has started to depress them. Mourinho should have learned that his carry-on is totally unproductive. Indeed, he probably does know that and is just trying to engineer a move away after giving up at Old Trafford.

Some rare good news for the club. Everton want Marcos Rojo, and United want £30m for the deeply average and injury-prone central defender. If he leaves it means someone who can actually defend can be brought in. The endless string of incompetence is a sick joke at this point.

And lastly, Jose Mourinho wants to bring players back from their World Cup holiday early. Let’s see how that one plays out.
