Manchester United look likely to miss out on Cristiano Ronaldo. After years of rumours about United and Edward Woodward wanting to bring him to Old Trafford, it seems as if they’ve been caught out in the one season he’s available. For around £88m, at 33, it seems like it’s just too much to be worth the effort, but he’s still perhaps the best player in the world and could conceivably add another 150 goals to his tally before he retires. Juventus could apparently be the club to sign him, with an announcement possibly made as soon as tomorrow.
United will have the first televised game of the Premier League season, and it will also be the game to kick off the Premier League season. They will play on the Friday night against Leicester City. That means that United should start the season with three points, but they should have got a lot of three points they didn’t manage to, last season.
Riyad Mahrez, occasionally linked to Manchester United in the past, seems set to join Manchester City for around £60m, as expected. He’s an excellent player, and if United decide to go for Xherdan Shaqiri then, whatever it does for the squad in general, City are probably ahead in the transfer window battle so far.
At just 22, Luke Shaw’s football career could be over. He has been pictured looking well overweight this summer and has only returned to training a week earlier than expected. That is the least that could be expected from him given he is already so far behind in his preparation work. Nevertheless, apparently he wants to fight for a place. He could have done that last season, or the one before that. Or the one before etc.
And lastly, Paul Pogba is into the World Cup semi-finals.
