Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has today rejoined Aston Villa on loan for the 2018-19 season. The 20 year-old academy graduate spent the second half of last season at Villa Park, and although he had his appearances restricted by injury, Villa manager Steve Bruce was impressed enough to bring him back for the new campaign. Villa narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League when they lost in the playoffs last season, and are considered one of the early favorites to compete for the Championship title this year.

Earlier on in the summer, Tuanzebe had alluded to the possibility of staying at United this season and competing for a first team place, but a full season of regular football is likely the more sensible option for his development. The promising center back is looking forward to the new season:

“It’s great to be back. This is a big, big club and to represent it again is a big honour for me.

”It made perfect sense for me to return for the season ahead. I know my way around the place now and owe a lot to the great people who’ve really looked after me.

”It was a no-brainer and now the ambition remains the same as last season – to reach the Premier League.

”I believe the squad we have here are more than capable of achieving it and playing at that level.”

He joins Joel Pereira (Vitoria Setubal), Dean Henderson (Sheffield United), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Scunthorpe United), and Matty Willock (St Mirren) on the list of youngsters who have been loaned out this season. Best of luck to him.
