According to this second-hand story in The Mirror, taking from MundoDeportivo, Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in taking Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona. Barcelona, apparently, are happy to simply get their money back on the player. There would be a £10m upfront fee, followed by a £90m payment in the following summer. Quite why United or Arsenal should want to buy a player from a club who want to get rid of him so quickly after buying him is not clear. There have been rumours of disciplinary problems, too, which seems like more hassle than it’s worth at that price.
Exciting transfer news for United! It’s not actually good news, obviously. It’s depressing. Barcelona have offered £100m for Paul Pogba. Mino Raiola has decided he’d like to get his client to Spain where he can play for an actually good team, and probably win things and earn more money. From that point of view, fair enough. On the other hand, that £100m has been offered in the form of £50m plus Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes. That offer quickly looks absolutely useless, and presumably will only serve to unsettle Pogba for a full month more before the transfer window shuts, and he starts playing dreadfully again.
Ante Rebic, who joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent deal from Fiorentina just a few weeks ago, says he has a permanent offer from another club. He doesn’t seem especially good, but given we’ve not signed anyone now, any old punt will probably. What a wretched club United are now. I hope you’re all getting excited for the season!
Occasional target for Liverpool, Chelsea and United, Nabil Fekir, has rekindled talk of a transfer away from Lyon. Given he doesn’t have a very big Instagram following, Ed Woodward probably doesn’t want to buy him.
