Matty Willock leaves Manchester United on loan

He’s off to Crawley Town

Another move! It’s all go. 22-year-old midfielder Matty Willock has left Manchester United and will join League Two’s Crawley Town on loan for the remainder of the season.

This will be Willock’s second loan spell of the season. He moved to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren at the beginning of the season, but that spell was cut short in December and he was sent back to Old Trafford after 14 games.

St Mirren didn’t comment on their reasons at the time, but given that they are currently sat at the bottom of the table, we can probably surmise things generally weren’t going very well for anybody. And given that he’s 22 and has yet to make an appearance in a first-team squad, perhaps we can further surmise that this is the prelude to a permanent departure.

That’s not him in the picture, incidentally. That’s Crawley’s mascot Reggie the Red. Willock will of course already know Reggie’s brother Fred from his time in Manchester, so hopefully that’ll make the transition easier.
