Here are the ratings from Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the EFL Cup.
Starters
Sergio Romero: 7/10
Some scary moments where he didn’t hold onto the ball, but overall another solid performance from the best backup in Britain.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 8/10
Excellent defensively today, and was active in shutting down a scary spell for Chelsea near the end of the first half.
Victor Lindelof: 6.5/10
Should have done better dealing with Michy Batshuayi on his solo goal, but other than that had a good defensive performance.
Harry Maguire: 6.5/10
See above.
Marcos Rojo: 5/10
Rash tackling at times, and Chelsea found a lane down United’s left on more than one occasion. Also was the last man in front of Batshuayi on the equalizer.
Brandon Williams: 7/10
Looked a bit indecisive at times, but overall a nice performance at wing-back in a big game.
Fred: 6/10
Still looking a bit rushed on the ball, but was able to get into some dangerous positions today. Won the free kick that Rashford converted, and sent in a dangerous cross that just missed Martial.
Scott McTominay: 8/10
McTominay is continuing to develop into a really nice midfielder. Did some good work bossing it against Kovacic and Jorginho today.
Jesse Lingard: 5.5/10
Failed to make an impact, still not sure what role he is able to play in Ole’s system.
Daniel James: 7/10
Won the penalty for the opening goal, and kept up the energy throughout the match. Chelsea had their hands full with him nearly all game.
Marcus Rashford: 9/10
Great performance from Rashford today. Exorcised his penalty demons, sent in an absolute screamer of a free kick, and was influential in giving momentum back to United after Chelsea equalized.
Substitutes
Anthony Martial: 6/10
Was able to get involved, but didn’t make a real impact. Had a clever effort near the end that went just wide.
Ashley Young: 6/10
Gave some fresh legs for the defensive effort down the stretch.
Andreas Pereira: N/A
Didn’t really have time to make an impact.
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 8/10
Did well getting the team ready today, and the 3 centre back formation appears to be working. The team has continued to recover well from a very difficult run of draws and losses, and have now won 3 straight away from home. Also looks smart giving Brandon Williams the start.
