The terrifying personage that is Nigel Pearson has returned to the Premier League as Watford manager, and will be prowling the touchline as his side host Manchester United on Sunday. He’s already the Hornets’ third manager of the season, after they sacked Javi Gracia and ex-boss Quique Sánchez Flores with less than half of the campaign gone. Pearson has a lot of work to do: his side are rooted to the foot of the table with just one win from their opening 17.

Making matters harder for Watford is their current injury crisis. Former United players Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck are both sidelined for this one, alongside José Holebas, Sebastian Prödl and Daryl Janmaat. Star man Roberto Pereyra is a doubt, as is Adam Masina. United’s injury problems are, by contrast, finally beginning to lift. Paul Pogba has made the trip south, and could be named in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s matchday squad.
