Fresh from their 4-0 drubbing away at Everton on the weekend, Manchester United play host to title-chasing Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday. This, on the one hand, could be a good thing — a big game against a huge rival being the perfect tonic to yoke Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s underperforming players from their present malaise. And other such mixed metaphors.
On the other hand, and perhaps more likely, this could also be a bad thing. A very bad thing indeed. Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring Blues have already scored 87 league goals so far this season, and haven’t dropped points in the league since January. They’ll be licking their chops at the prospect of going up against a sub-par United. Things could well get embarrassing.
United at least have Luke Shaw back from a two-match ban, though Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Ander Herrera are all unlikely to play a part. City’s only certain absentee is backup goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, while Kevin de Bruyne will need to pass a late fitness test to play a part.
