Manchester United will soon make their first signing for next season, according to reports.

Most papers, including the Daily Mail which is hyperlinked here as at some point that was good SEO practice, believe that United will pay £15 million for the Swansea City winge.r

The 21-year-old Welsh international has been linked with United for the past couple of months and will provide competition for Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, assuming they are going to stay for next season.

He is able to play on both wings and looks to have the technical ability which will let him play in support of a striker if needed, and is only available this summer because a winter transfer to Leeds United fell apart to some kind of tech hoo-ha.

He is available for a low fee not just because he plays in the Championship, but because his contract runs out at the end of next season, so Swansea want to ensure that they receive a meaningful sum for him now rather than for buttons in 2020.

United’s move for James could mean that a transfer for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho might have to wait. Reports suggest that given United will miss out on the Champions League next season, he would rather stay in Germany where not only is he likely to play every match, but he will be able to develop in Europe ahead of the European Championships in 2020.
