Because the current squad is rubbish

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The United manager wants to wrap up a transfer for the player this summer even if the cost of the player exceeds £60 million. The club have reportedly already had a bid of £40 million rejected by Crystal Palace.

There are complications for the transfer because Palace are expected to sell one of Wan-Bissaka or former United winger Wilfried Zaha this summer, but are not financially troubled and will only let one of them go. Any club wishing to sign either player will have to act quickly or potentially pay more than expected to force through the transfer of either player to leave last.

According to the Daily Mail, Solskjaer is also concerned that United might end up missing out on Wan-Bissaka totally if they do not sign him this season. If he performs well again next season for Palace, then his asking price could well exceed the £60 million that he could currently fetch.

The paper also mentions that United are still interested in Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, a player they held an interest in last season but failed to bid for because although he is so much better than the current crop of defenders, he’s not actually anything special and could now cost in excess of £80 million. He is expected to sign for Manchester City in the next few weeks.

There is also the suggestion that if David de Gea were to leave this summer then Jan Oblak might leave Atletico Madrid to move to Old Trafford.
