Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has hinted that he will soon be leaving the club, with interest likely to come from Inter Milan.

Lukaku has long been linked with a move to Inter after the appointment of Antonio Conte at the club. Conte wanted to sign Lukaku when the Belgian international was at Everton, but was instead provided with Alvaro Morata.

The 26-year-old striker has mentioned to the press that Conte is a great coach, and he has refused to commit his future to United. For his part, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the nod to Marcus Rashford as the first choice striker, because Rashford’s advantage over Lukaku is that he can run.

Lukaku came back from the World Cup last year seemingly overweight, and he struggled to move on the pitch and to find the target on the rare occasion he ambled close to the net.

After United’s friendly win over Perth Glory in Australia, Lukaku told the press that: “You guys will know something next week.”

Inter have been rumoured to be around £10 million shy of United’s valuation of Lukaku, with United wanting the £90 million total they ended up paying Everton for the player. Inter have been unable to sell Mauro Icardi, which would make it easier for the club to afford him.

Solskjaer was hardly desperate to give the impression he wanted to keep the player, either. When asked he said: “Let’s see when the season starts. We have not had any bids that we are considering.” That suggests that moves are afoot to get rid of the player.
