Luke Shaw is set for over a month on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury during Manchester United’s shock loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday. The left-back had to be substituted in the first half after pulling up without making contact, immediately raising fears that he had sustained a worrying injury.

Shaw’s replacement in that match — club captain Ashley Young — is the most likely candidate to occupy the left-back spot over the next several games. Other options are Marcos Rojo, who is both rubbish and keen to leave the club, and Matteo Darmian, who...well...ditto. Young full-back Diogo Dalot can operate on the left as well, but he is currently recovering from injury also.

Shaw is likely to miss at least the next four games for United — against Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham United and Arsenal — as well as the upcoming England internationals. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to give a further update on the fitness of Shaw and other during his press conference on Friday.
