Injury hit Manchester United could be boosted by the return of two key players from injury against Arsenal on Monday. Both Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were pictured with the matchday squad for the Premier League clash at Old Trafford. Pogba had previously missed several games and the last round of international duty with an ankle injury — an injury which he promptly re-aggravated on his first-team return against Rochdale last week in the Carabao Cup.
Pogba being a doubt for today’s Big Six clash (arf, United are currently 11th in the table) was seen a damning indictment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to risk his most important midfielder against League One opposition last week. The Frenchman’s availability is a relief, but whether or not he will be at full capacity remains to be seen. Given the sorry state of United’s midfield without him (and often times with him anyway), he will need to be fit and raring to go if the Reds are to have any chance of a win.
Marcus Rashford’s possible return comes as more a surprise. The forward was forced off West Ham the weekend before last with a groin injury that initially looked to be significant, but he has also been pictured at the team hotel with the rest of the matchday squad. Worryingly, there was no sign of Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Luke Shaw.
For Arsenal, there was no sign of Mesut Özil (just like when he’s on the pitch - zing!), and Alexandre Lacazette remains out with injury as well.
