Starters

Sergio Romero: 8/10

Some good saves to stop an early Wolves goal, got more help from his defenders as the match went on. He has 7 clean sheets this season, not bad for a backup.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 7/10

Solid in defense after a couple scary moments in the opening 20 minutes. Settled in and got forward.

Victor Lindelof: 7/10

Good in a couple 1-on1 situations, especially in the second half. Pressure picked up after Mata’s goal, but the defense held on.

Harry Maguire: 6/10

Strong in defense and on the ball. Made some contributions in possession when midfield was lacking. However, had a couple scary moments, including a bad giveaway charging up the field and was nearly caught out.

Brandon Williams: 9/10

Excellent performance from Williams. Dealt well with Neto and Traore, kept an edge to his game throughout, and won a couple free kicks. Hopefully a sign that he will be the first choice left-back going forward.

Nemanja Matic: 5/10

Very slow and not creative, but avoided making costly mistakes.

Fred: 6/10

Good passing and forward thinking. Had a mistake early that would have cost a goal without VAR calling it back for a handball.

Juan Mata: 8/10

Had good attacking awareness. Limited a bit as the game went on, but managed to finish off a decisive counter attacking goal and send United through to the next round.

Daniel James: 6/10

Had some good chances in the first half, and caused some problems with his speed. A better finishing touch and he would have opened the scoring.

Mason Greenwood: 5/10

Didn’t get involved too much, forgot he was on the pitch at times. May have needed better direction from Solskjaer, and slipped further out of frame when the front 3 started to interchange.

Anthony Martial: 7/10

Solid outing from the French forward. He was frustrated for chances of his own, but set up some for his teammates, including the through ball that sent In Mata for the decisive goal.

Substitutes

Andreas Pereira: 5/10

Did enough to see out the match in midfield.

Marcus Rashford: N/A

Suffered an injury soon after coming on, subbed off soon after. Hopefully not too serious, but didn’t look good at all.

Jesse Lingard: N/A

Came on for Rashford, didn’t see much involvement.

Manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 6/10

Not a memorable performance by any means, but United were organized in defense for a tough Wolves opponent they’ve seen plenty of over the last 2 seasons. Ole’s subs didn’t work out for reasons beyond his control, as Rashford suffered a scary injury and had to be subbed off himself, but overall job done and onto the next one.
