Andreas Pereira has left Manchester United to join Lazio on a season-long loan. The Serie A side had been in negotiations for the 24-year-old Brazil international for some time and this week the two clubs agreed a deal that will see Lazio the majority of the player’s salary for the upcoming campaign. Lazio reportedly have an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for €27m (£24.5m).

Despite making 40 appearances in all competitions last season, Pereira faced a struggle for playing time in the current campaign. Following the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January, the academy graduate found himself on the fringes of the first team picture, and the summer signing of Donny van de Beek only demoted Pereira further.

Pereira is unlikely to be the last departure from United to Serie A. Chris Smalling is widely expected to return to Lazio’s local rivals Roma on a permanent deal, while both Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Diogo Dalot have attracted interest from Italy as well.
