After a long “summer” transfer window full of hope, frustration, and exactly one new signing so far, Manchester United will be hoping to have a busy final day. The deadline in England is at 11 PM BST, which is 6 PM on the east coast of the US, and 3 PM on the west.
We will update this post over the course of the day with the latest rumors and news.
Here is what is happening so far:
IN
Jadon Sancho
The long, tiresome saga over number one transfer target Jadon Sancho looks to be over. Barring a last-minute breakthrough, that deal is dead in the water.
Ousmane Dembélé
United are now looking at alternatives to Sancho, and first among those is Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembélé. United are reportedly negotiating a loan deal. Barcelona want a permanent deal, but are now open to to a loan.
Démbélé did not train with Barça today, as per @moillorens. He’s open to join Man Utd - talks on between #MUFC and Barça but still no agreement.

Now Man Utd considering to pay loan fee + covering full salary. Barça want permanent deal.
Sarr: Watford refused approach on loan.
Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles
While nothing is certain until the contracts are signed and the announcements are made, United are expected to announce the signings of striker Edinson Cavani and defender Alex Telles today. Cavani joins on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, while left-back Telles is at Carrington to complete his signing from Porto.
Amad Traoré
The Reds are signing teenage Atalanta winger Amad Traoré for £27.2m plus add-ons. Pending work permit approval — Traoré has only played a few minutes of senior football — the Ivorian attacker will join United in January.
OUT
Sergio Romero
Manchester United have one senior goalkeeper too many, and Romero was widely expected to move on in this window in search of regular football. Everton have reportedly expressed interest, but United are only interested in a permanent deal rather than a loan.
Everton made contact over Sergio Romero [Man Utd] and/or Paulo Gazzaniga [Tottenham] as they look to bring in a goalkeeper to challenge Jordan Pickford. Everton prefer a loan move, but United and Spurs want permanent deals. Southampton confident on deal for Theo Walcott.

Chris Smalling
Smalling spent last season on loan at Roma, did very well, and widely expected to be the most straightforward exit from United this summer. Unfortunately, Roma don’t agree with United’s valuation of the England international, and unless this Serie A club raise their bid, Smalling will remain at United. The latest reported offer is €15 million.

Diogo Dalot
Dalot is joining AC Milan on loan for the season. Milan have already announced it, but United, weirdly, have not.

20:03: Romero wants out, and his wife feels that United are being unfair. No wonder that United can’t shift the likes of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones — they can’t even get deals done for the few players that have value.
