Update: Manchester United have announced the signing of Facundo Pellistri on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.

Manchester United appear to have won the race for Uruguayan wonderkid Facundo Pellistri as his club Peñarol’s vice-chairman said: “It’s still not closed, but we expect it to be done in the coming hours.”
With 37 senior appearances to his name with top-flight side Penal, the 18-year-old forward has impressed Manchester United officials enough to offer a five-year deal.

It is understood a deal could be around £10m ($13m) and the winger comes under the recommendation of former United forward Diego Forlan, who managed Pellistri during his spell at Peñarol.
Real Madrid, Juventus, Lyon, and Atletico Madrid have also shown interest in Pellistri, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in South America.
Pellistri completed his medical on Saturday ahead of signing a five-year deal. According to Uruguayan publication Tenfield, Pellistri will head to England today in order to sign on the dotted line.
Peñarol were hoping to keep him until January but United were eager to get the deal finalized before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
