Shock wins over RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain have given Manchester United a surprise lead at the midway point of the Champions League group stages. Alas, an equally shocking defeat to Istanbul Başakşehir in Turkey meant that only tiebreakers keep Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side top of the group with three games to go. There’s still all to play for.
United could take a small step towards progressing to the knockout stages by exacting revenge against Başakşehir at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Solskjær will have to do without the injured Luke Shaw, while Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Scott McTominay are all doubtful. Jesse Lingard is self-isolating; and Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero didn’t even make the squad. Expect to see some rotation from Solskjær, with the likes of Dean Henderson and Edinson Cavani almost certain to be given starts.
