Manchester United have been linked with a move for Ecquadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo. This link comes just ahead of the January transfer window, and the club are reportedly eager to get the deal done soon.

The 19-year old midfielder is a regular for club Independiente del Valle, making 28 appearances and scoring 6 goals since making his first team debut just a year ago. This includes the Ecuadorian LigaPro Serie A and the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition.

Caicedo has already earned 4 caps for his national team as well, and has earned praise for his recent performances in Ecuador’s 2022 World Cup Qualification campaign. He scored in Ecquador’s 4-2 win against Uruguay, and provided two assists in their 3-2 win over Bolivia.

Caicedo has been described as “Cold blooded” playing in front of the back line, and is praised for his confidence in possession and ability to move the ball forward. He would provide a high-energy press from midfield, and appears to be very comfortable playing in either a holding midfield role or a box-to-box role.

Caicedo is the latest youngster linked with a move to United, following a supposed change in transfer policy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. There have been several young talents targeted for both the first team and the youth academy since Solskjaer’s arrival, and Caicedo certainly fits the profile. However, due to work permit regulations, the club would like to complete any deal in the January window to begin the process of his arrival for duty ASAP.
