Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez could be on the way to Inter Milan in a permanent deal, but only if he prepares to take a cut on his current wages.
He is currently on loan at Inter, but the Italian club have put just £4.5 million to cover his wages in exchange for United letting him leaving for the season.
His current deal at Old Trafford entitles him to £400,000 a week, with up to roughly £150,000 a week further in bonuses.
If he is to make a permanent switch to Inter, then a number of obstacles have to be overcome according to a report in the Daily Mail. First he will need to give up half of his weekly entitlement, bringing it down to £200,000 a week.
Secondly, he will need to prove his worth in the final stages of Serie A. If Inter win their two games in hand on Juventus, they would be just two points behind the current champions in the race for the league title. Sanchez has returned to first team action after recovering from injury, but has made only eight league appearances and 14 appearances in all for the Italians.
The 31-year-old Chilean international cut an isolated figure in his time at Old Trafford, both under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In a recent press conference, Solskjaer appeared to suggest that Sanchez would be welcomed back to the side in the summer, but it is most likely that Sanchez was merely defending his player as he has done most of those who were eventually sold on.
United are targeting more attacking reinforcements this summer, with one or more of Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Jadon Sancho on the shortlist to improve the front line. Paul Pogba could leave for Real Madrid or Juventus.
