Manchester United have confirmed that Odion Ighalo will remain with the club until January 2021, after an agreement was reached with Shanghai Shenhua to extend his loan deal. His stay was due to expire at the end of May, though the Nigerian forward pushed to stay at Old Trafford, and has been granted his wish.

It’s very good news for United, who would otherwise have badly lacked attacking depth when their postponed domestic fixtures finally get underway in three weeks’ time. At 30 years of age, Ighalo’s no long-term solution, but he’s done well enough in his short time at the club to suggest he’s a useful rotation option. In all, he’s scored four times in eight United appearances, including a goal in each of his three starts.

The Premier League is set to return the weekend of June 17, with United away to Tottenham Hotspur in their ‘Project Restart’ opener. FA Cup quarterfinals are set to be played on June 27 and 28, with United having been drawn away to Norwich City. Exact dates and times for all fixtures are yet to be confirmed.
