Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that Angel Gomes is likely to leave the club.

The 19-year-old winger is out of contract at what would have been the end of the normal season, and has agreed no new deal, which means he is free to join another club when it expires.

He has been linked with a move to Premier League club Chelsea, and the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner does not appear to be a block in any transfer. The London club are likely to see both Willian and Pedro move on so will have room for another player on the wing.

Asked if Gomes was close to a new deal, he told the press:

“To be honest, I have not heard from them last night or this morning.

“So it seems like they’ve not managed to agree, so the answer is probably short and ‘yes’ at the moment.

“I’ve got no news, so it doesn’t look like it.”

Gomes made his debut for United under Jose Mourinho in Wayne Rooney’s final league game for the club, but has found it difficult to break into the first team.

He has made six appearances for the senior team this season and with his contract up in the air he is unlikely to feature again. He has played 12 times for the first team since 2017 and is yet to score his first goal for the club.

Fellow youngster Tahith Chong committed his future to the club with a new contract of his own and it appears he is the likeliest to challenge Daniel James for a place on the right wing of the existing squad, along with Mason Greenwood. United are expected to add one of Jack Grealish or Jadon Sancho over course of the next transfer window.
