Bayern Munich midfield maestro and La Masia product Thiago Alcantara has been linked with a move to the Premier League for much of the summer. The recent Champions League winner and pass master has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but with the deal stalling in recent days Manchester United have now been linked as well.

United were first mentioned in the Thiago sweepstakes in early July, but it is widely believed that the player prefers a move to Anfield. At 29 years old, it’s understandable that Thiago would want a move to another fine-tuned and title contending squad rather than taking part in a rebuilding project, and with the signing of Ajax’s Donny Van De Beek a move for another midfielder looks unlikely. Bayern likely want to pressure Liverpool, and whoever else might be interested, into taking the deal now before the new season starts.

However, a move for Thiago would further deepen United’s relatively shallow midfield, and could speed up efforts to ship out players such as Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard, both of whom were very lacking playing in creative roles this season. If United can make it work financially, Thiago would be a fantastic addition to the team.
