Young Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird has joined League One side Milton Keynes Dons on loan for the rest of the season in an effort for first-team football.

The 19-year-old has played two games for United which were both in the Europa League last season and was promoted to first-team training last summer after a number of injuries at Old Trafford.
Laird signed a new contract last year which runs until 2023, with the option of extending the deal by another season, and has already started on the bench for MK Dons’ FA Cup third-round tie at Premier League side Burnley.
Laird was excited to join the Dons, telling the MK Dons website: “I need to work my way into the team and get to know the lads, but I want to make as much of an impact as I can while I’m here.
“That’s something I’ll always hold myself too - how can I affect my team-mates and the club in a positive way.
“This is the perfect place for me to continue developing, with the way the team play.
“They are aggressive, they like to get in behind and they leave it all out on the pitch and that’s my idea of football.”
Laird eventually played 57 minutes off the bench for the Dons on Saturday.
Moving in the other direction, 20-year-old midfielder Dylan Levitt has been recalled early from his loan at Charlton Athletic. Levitt struggled for playing time at Charlton, and is likely to head back out on loan this month.
Levitt made his United first-team debut in the Europa League clash with Astana in November 2019 and his senior international debut in September as Wales beat Finland in the UEFA Nations League.
Matej Kovar has also returned from a spell at Swindon Town.
