Manchester United announced this morning that Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench this evening due to some of the coaching staff having to self isolate.
The news couldn’t have come at a worse time for Manchester United as they are hours away from hosting Newcastle at Old Trafford today.
It is understood that no players are having to isolate and the match is still scheduled today, but it appears assistant coaches Mike Phelan and/or Michael Carrick are the ones who will be isolating as a precaution.
Some members of #mufc’s coaching staff are believed to have tested positive for coronavirus. It’s understood up to three coaches working with the first-team are affected, but today’s game against Newcastle will go ahead #mulive [mirror]

The coaches involved are thought to have returned positive tests last week and didn’t travel to Turin for the Europa League game against Real Sociedad.
Butt has been working as the club’s head of first-team development since leaving his role as head of the academy in 2019. Dempsey was part of Solskjaer’s senior staff before leaving the preseason tour in 2019 on medical grounds.
