Manchester United face a battle with Borussia Dortmund for the signature for Brighton defender Ben White.
Brighton turned down three bids from Leeds for the player who had been on loan with them last summer, with the final offer worth £25 million. However they will do business for £10 million more than that at the end of the current season, with more than Dortmund and United in the hunt.
Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are also linked by the Sun, and Liverpool and Spurs have both previously been suggested as potential destinations for the 23-year-old central defender.
Dortmund missed out on signing Ben Godfrey when he moved from Norwich to Everton, but they retain an interest in young English players, with White likely to be involved with the England set up in the next few months.
The Sun also claims that captain Harry Maguire wants United to sign White, though presumably Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows that Victor Lindelof is not the only centre-back who needs replacing in the first team, given Maguire’s generally mediocre form since his arrival.
The paper also suggests that United are willing to wait until the end of the next season to secure the signature of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, when his release clause of around £65 million kicks in. That would allow them to focus on adding other players such as Jadon Sancho to the club, and they have also been mentioned in conjunction with an exit for Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, with the 36-year-old Portuguese international keen to leave Juventus, and the Italian side in turn would be happy to get the veteran’s huge wages off their books.
United need to busy in the summer transfer window, as they need to replace all of their back five, their striker, right winger and at least one central midfielder.
