Protests at Old Trafford put Manchester United vs. Liverpool in doubt

Match in doubt as fans storm the pitch

Nearly an hour to the start of Manchester United’s match against Liverpool, the match is in serious doubt as fans raid Old Trafford and wreak havoc in the stands as they protest the American owners of Manchester United.

Fans have invaded the pitch at Old Trafford, setting off flares and generally causing mayhem. It hasn’t stopped the two teams announcing their starting lineups for today’s match, due to kick off at 16:30 BST, but we’d be very surprised if the game kicked off on time—if at all. According to a journalist from the Liverpool Echo, fans may even have made it into the players’ dressing rooms. If so, the game may well be abandoned in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines. At present seems more likely that the game will be abandoned than go ahead.
