Manchester United have reportedly opened negotiations with Real Madrid for the signature of France centre-half Raphaël Varane. The 28-year-old has only a year left on his contract at the Bernabéu, though United would have to fend off interest from Paris Saint-Germain to complete the transfer.

According to ESPNFC, Real Madrid value Varane at around €70 million, though United are confident of getting a deal done for something closer to €50m. News that PSG have recently opened negotiations with free agent Sergio Ramos, released by Real Madrid last month, will surely boost United’s chances of landing Varane.

Should negotiations fail, United would apparently consider a move to Villarreal defender Pau Torres. The 24-year-old Spaniard is an important part of Luis Enrique’s Spain squad at Euro 2020, and has a release clause of €65m. He’ll almost certainly be on the move this summer, though his eventual destination depends on what happens with Varane.
