Manchester United have continued a dialogue with Real Madrid over a price for centre back Raphael Varane. The French defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and the news has picked up since France’s early exit from UEFA Euro 2020 in the Round of 16.

Reports on Monday suggested that Manchester United were short of Real Madrid’s valuation of around €50m, but Los Blancos may have to accept a lesser fee. Varane’s contract ends next summer, and as of now he has rejected the club’s attempts to sign him to an extension beyond that.
#mufc have been given permission to approach Raphaël Varane and discuss personal terms. Varane would be open to the move if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs. PSG are also in talks with Varane’s camp #mulive [sky]

If interest from the player is there to move to the Premier League, Varane could be a big veteran addition to the United squad. He could be an upgrade on Lindelof next to Harry Maguire, and would bring a litany of defensive skills and experience. The four time UEFA Champions League winner and World Cup winner has started at the highest level for nearly a decade, and would add serious clout to the United back line.
