Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka, whose contract is due to expire in the Summer of 2022. Their interest was reported last month during the Euros, and was directly linked to the possibility of losing Paul Pogba. The Frenchman’s contract is similarly approaching expiry, and Goretzka presents a unique opportunity to replicate his production upon departure without paying a hefty transfer fee.

Recent reports suggest that talks between the club and Goretzka’s agent have been ongoing, with Bayern currently trailing in terms of standing offer. Bayern have a lot on their plate in terms of contract extensions, and have already begun to lose some more of their old guard with the departure David Alaba to Real Madrid.

It is hard to imagine replacing Paul Pogba, but Goretzka is quite the talented midfielder himself. Enough so that even if Pogba extends the club should still consider a move for the midfielder.
