Manchester United centre back Axel Tuanzebe has been linked with a season-long loan move to Newcastle United. He’s struggled to stay fit and find first team opportunities since returning to the club from a successful loan spell at Aston Villa, during which he was a crucial part of their promotion campaign.

Tuanzebe is a player that fans have had high hopes for, but he hasn’t seized the opportunity since his return to the first team in 2019. It was a task made more difficult by injuries. He was sidelined with hip and thigh injuries after some good performances in the League Cup and UEFA Europa League early in the 2019/20 season, and this past season suffered an ankle injury causing him to miss further time.
The arrival of Raphael Varane likely means there will be less opportunities for Tuanzebe, who is already behind Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly on the team depth chart. At just 23 years of age it is expected that his career is still plenty ahead of him, and a loan move may do him well, especially at another Premier League club.
