Amid all the transfer reports on Raphael Varane and Eduardo Camavinga to Manchester United, it’s easy to forget that this summer transfer window for the Reds will also be defined by the future of Paul Pogba.

There have now been reports from French journalists Mohamed Bouhafsi and Julien Laurens that Paris Saint Germain are considering a move for the Frenchman. Pogba’s contract will be up next summer and transfer insider Fabrizio Romana has stated that United have offered him a contract but the wages have been a stumbling block.

Bouhafsi added that Paris Saint Germain could wait next summer and that the value for this summer will be lower than €80m. Laurens is of the belief that Paris Saint Germain will have to offload a few players for this to work. The club from Ligue 1 had an underwhelming season and have been the busiest super club since the window opened.

Pogba would be more of a luxury signing as they already have a packed midfield. The Frenchman had an excellent Euros and was arguably the player of the tournament before France’s surprise exit in the round of 16.

Pogba’s been a polarizing figure since his return to Manchester. He’s still the record signing in the Premier League and United will be doing their most to not lose him on a free. United also look like they’re on course to having their first truly competitive squad in the post-Fergie era, one that matches the ambitions of the player.

This might be a case of too little, too late.
